Keep Pressing Forward

Each time I pop my earbuds to occasionally listen to a playlist, I always instantly feel I am part of a music video — especially if I am riding the train bound to 16th street or downtown. When I am walking the streets where I enjoy seeing myself on mirror-walled building, or peddling the elliptical, music helps me to check in myself and remind myself here’s the song of the day. It feels like I am in a music video of my own. Do you do that too? Do you feel that too?

Hey, have you ever thought that your humanity is a gift? Because I finally did.

I always wonder what was Jesus doing when he was at the same age as I am. Until now, I always wonder what was Jesus doing when he was 24 or 25. What did he do when everyone around Him was getting married before their 30s while He just started to live the peak of His ministry (career) on His 30 knowing that he’ll die at 33?

Did he ever have a pimple too? Did he care about his hairstyle, or did he ever hated…

a Father’s day special

A snapshot by my Mom while we were playing the “airplane game”. My Dad was blowing the whistle to signal that “plane Kelly” is about to launch. Ela all smiles at the back as her turn ended, and I was sitting calmly learning to do “gansilyo” knitting as my Mom instructed me.

I have a plethora of childhood memories that I spent with my parents, but it is the airplane game which I played with my father and my sisters that I love the most, and it is the one I remember the most because my Momma preserved it on her camera.

We, 3 sisters would line up for our turn to play the airplane game. Being the eldest, I always get to do it first. My father would place his left foot against my stomach, then he would raise his left leg, and he would launch me. When I reached the…

Consider what your life would be like today if God hadn’t pursued you.
Spend a few minutes writing out a prayer to God, thanking Him for your miraculous adoption.

Dear God,

I don’t know where I would be if you hadn’t pursued me. Just imagining that I will be back from my old life and you being so far away terrifies me. If you hadn’t pursued me, I would be the old me not wanting to exist in this world. I will be that old me thinking that there is no hope for her and that nobody loves her. If…

Hello, how are you doing? I was reading Anne Finch’s poem, A Nocturnal Reverie tonight. Besides my admiration that it was written in heroic couplets, where two lines of rhyming verse are in iambic pentameter. I was drawn in to how she alludes to the darkness of the outdoor as a state of musing and peaceful solitude in contrast with the busy life the breaking of the light of the day brings. When I was younger, I feared the dark. Little did I know that darkness is much scarier; it is not just about physical darkness, which you can just…

Dealing with Sexual Harassment

Photo by Mihai Surdu on Unsplash

The older I get, the more I discover that I am still the little girl with a strange mix of one who loves myself, but oddly feels uncomfortable in receiving compliments from others and awkwardly reacts when someone gives attention to me. I guess other than being really shy, a part of it roots out growing up in the town where people shove in my face their self proclaimed right to tell me frankly what they think about me from little catcalling on the street, to the eyeing of the neighbors, to being asked out by a random jeepney driver…

“You cannot celebrate the pro-choice cause without celebrating the harm of another. In a culture where “don’t harm others” is the lowest common denominator of moral imperatives, abortion advocates cannot even clear that low moral bar. Abortion advocates cannot even appeal to the base principle of various progressive sexual ethics — that anything is permissible as long as it is consensual and does no harm. Abortion by nature inflicts harm by one party on another, without their consent.

Even a liberal, pro-abortion feminist like Camille Paglia has admitted that the pro-life movement “has the moral high ground” over the pro-choice…

…and then suddenly time becomes slow at SF. We see our neighbors for the first time, dance, and perhaps giggle with them. “Hey, how are you? how yah doin’” becomes a real question and “good” as a reply becomes more personal. We dig deeper into how we really feel about what’s going on. We value people/workers, and we appreciate the services which we take for granted. We climbed our rooftops, sipped a hot drink in our patios, and for the first time, we had a break from our 9–5 or even double job lifestyle. We…

I hope…
I hope you’ll soon realize that you are loved more than you deserve, and you are special in God’s eyes even when you find it hard to see your worth each day. I hope you’ll soon see that God’s hands are reaching out to you when you know you are feeling down and alone. I hope you’ll soon let him mend your broken heart which is shattered like you’ve never been before because He can heal your wounds and ease your pain. I hope you’ll soon experience contentment in your empty heart which you are filling with things you’ll…

The Msg Diaries

I was living in the darkness of the shadows of death when my Savior chose me and picked me up with His nail-pierced hands. I live to tell this story.
